I've only been knitting for about a month and have two scarfs under my belt and wanted to move on to something more challenging. I've been seeing knitwear EVERYWHERE in fashion magazines lately, but this sweater stood out to me because of the drapey-ness and big stitching, I thought it would be fun to try, but I can't find a pattern even similar to this.

Here's an image -- anyone want to give it a shot or explain how it might be done? I might just end up winging it. The only part that intimidates me is the hood.

There's also this video which gives some good shots. She stretches it and plays with it.

Thin to medium yarn, huge needles in garter stitch. You might try making 2 squares for the back and front and pick up sts in the armhole for the sleeves. A hood can be added later by picking up sts from the neckline. It almost looks like raglan shaping - a top down raglan is easy to make. Switching the colors is no problem, you'd do it like intarsia.
