They're various clock hands I bought from my boss (or you can get them from a clock parts supplier though that gets expensive very quickly) and different fasteners you can get at your local hardware store. They aren't meant to actually hold up hair since the metal is thin. They are strictly embellishments. I normally place them at the base of a bun or ponytail between the scalp and the elastic. But, they can be held in place with a snap barrette, too!

Recently discovered steampunk, and just starting to collect.  Thanks for the notes re: short hair. I'm growing mine back out since all of the cute hair ornaments are made for long hair, but yours will work now and later! On my way to Etsy!
