I am looking at making a few collars for my friends' dogs, particularly martingale collars for greyhounds, and have a couple of questions:
1- What type of thread is best to use for sewing them, just normal poly-cotton type thread, or something stronger?
2- Where is the best place to source metal hardware from?  I am in New Zealand and can't find ANY anywhere, so have found some on Ebay and asked if it will work to ship to me here!

Thank you Cheesy

For large dogs you need to use a heavier synthetic thread - I use thread meant for outdoor fabrics and triple stitch the stress points.

I live in Canada get my hardware from a supplier in the US called cdwplus - her shipping rates are reasonable, sometimes nothing on a small order. Here's the web address -

I have made a few--agree with the above about the stronger thread--I use a denim or leather needle as well for thicker collars. Have you tried etsy--if you check the supply section, you may find someone selling clasps, hope this helps!
