I finished my first attempt at "book binding" tonight and lemme tell you that it was fun... I made the book with this swap in mind, but since I still have time before my blank needs to be mailed out, I may churn out a few more books and pick the best to send...

When I made the book I basically put the pages in groups of 3 and held the 3 pages together with grommets... Then I tied all the grommet "3" groups together with ribbon.. It is not the most complicated way of putting a book together, but I figured it'd be relatively easy to add new pages to the book, if I ever decide to use this theme for another swap... All I would need to do is just untie the ribbon and add more groups....

I hope everyone is doing well on creating their blanks... I can not wait for the swap to start, the themes are great!  Grin

Ok, pardon if I sound out of it... but what is "the lonely doll"? My avatar comes from a photo I took a few years ago... I'm a sucker for nursery rhymes and fairy tales Tongue

it's one of my favorite creepy kids books!  (though it's not meant to be creepy...)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0395899265/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-0428293-1579327#reader-link
the woman who wrote it--dare wright:  could there BE a cooler name?!--lived with her mother, was supposedly a lifelong virgin, yet her mother took pin up shots of her...all very strange and the stories she wrote and photo-illustrated are amazing.  there is also a brilliant article about her in an old tin house magazine...http://www.tinhouse.com/Issues/Issue_2/toc.html
sorry, she's one of my little obsessions and your photo reminds me of her work a lot!

Wow, Rox -- that was a great idea for binding your book!  Mine isn't bound yet, so I might steal your idea if I can make it to Hobby Lobby today for a grommet-setting-thingie.

Mine is still in progress.  I used heavy card for the cover and covered it with mulberry paper.  When the glue dried, the mulberry paper must have shrunk a little bit, because it pulls the book open (it doesn't quite stay closed).  I'm deciding whether to go with it as is or try again.

I'm also having a hard time making the stuff I want on the cover fit.  I could probably save time by just redoing it rather than fiddling endlessly, but then I wouldn't be able to complain about it, would I?

hijole, you can always try to add a decorative closure--button and loop or twine and bead or something...that would keep the book closed and make it look like it's eager to be read, not just gapping.

just a thought--

OK, am I totally lame if I buy a blank pre-bound book for my deco?  I'm a little more into the decorating part than the bookbinding!

Do whatever you feel like! That's what I think you should.
After all, it's your deco Smiley

But bookbinding is pretty fun. I just tried it for the first time today.
Although I bet a broke many "bookbinding-rules" since I did everything in my own way..
Tomorrow I'll be making my blank deco Smiley
