My mother found an ad for this in the back of People magazine and saved it for me.  I thought this was the perfect place to share it:

Joann's Craft For A Cause Contest www.joann.com/craftforacause

Using materials bought at Joann's, craft a charitable item, send it to the charity/cause, and submit photos to the contest.  Winners will get a gift card to Joann's and $50,000 submitted to their chosen charity.

Is it awesome or is it awesome?!

Saw this yesterday too and I think it's brilliant!! I run a charity that's 100% based on donated crafts too, so I'm especially excited. If anyone needs an organization to craft for - please let me know! We're all about it! Smiley

I'm having a difficult time deciding what I want to craft for.  My big charity is Snuggles for Homeless Animals, but I also am into crafting for children's education and underprivileged and preemie babies.

My friend just sent me this link too. My problem is figuring out what to do and who to do it for.
Just so everyone knows there is actually two parts to this contest, the individual where 5 crafters win gift cards and the charity portion where the three causes with the most crafts donated to them get big money.
I sew (clothes, some toys, and blanket/quilts) anyone have some suggestions?

A lot of shelters accept blankets and quilts, especially in areas with colder winters.  I'm not sure about where to donate clothes directly except to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

I'm a little disappointed that they require a copy of the receipt (as I was hoping to use some stash stuff). If the fabric actually says something about being produced for Joann's stores, I think they ought to accept it.

It is a pretty awesome contest though!  I'll have to see if I can find a charity to craft for.

If anyone's looking for a suggestion on who to craft for...please check out RightasRain.org - it sells donated crafts of ALL kinds to raise money for people in an unexpected crisis.  Right now, it's CHelsea who was paralyzed in an accident last March. Check it out and see if you'd like to craft for this cause!

It's ALL about crafts and using them to help real people. Cool huh?
