I had another idea. What about a pin cushion in the center opening? Make a pillow to fit the opening. The pillow could be cinched tightly in the center and decorated with a bow so that it would look good even without pins.

This is lovely. I agree with more wires for earing storage, but a mirror would look good in the middle space and be useful too!

i love the eye hooks for the earrings, this is a really great idea!  the overall piece is really cute and clever (and i love the thriftiness of it, too!! )
