I enjoyed "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins and am eagerly awaiting the publication of the final book in the trilogy "Mockingjay" at the end of this month. So in honor of these books, I thought I'd make a tribute to the Mockingjay.

This piece was made using the "double iridized sandwich technique"--a technique where two pieces of iridescent glass are etched, then fired iridescent faces together. (See: http://www.glasscraftsman.com/216-MACorPC.pdf)

The glass on the back is transparent purple iridescent and the top piece is clear rainbow irid. I tried to take a picture showing the purple color of the plate, but it was about to rain, so that didn't work out too well.

Overall, I am delighted with the way this turned out! I plan to experiment around a bit in the future to refine some little things that I realized after finishing this project.

Thanks for looking!

Trying to show that it's really a transparent purple, not black:

This is so amazing! I am also a Hunger Games fan, and am currently rereading Hunger Games and Catching Fire in anticipation of Mockingjay coming out.
