So my son is turning the big ZERO FIVE and for his party, we are having it at the park. Last year we did a ton of arts and crafts things, but this year I want it to be more active.  So things I have thought of are:

Sack Races
Three legged races
Water Balloon toss (toss back and forth until it pops)
Egg/Spoon races (put the egg on the spoon and see how far you can go till it falls off)
Pinata- hes never had one and really really wants to do one
Face Painting- the next door neighbor girl wants to help with that
Cake/Food/Etc.

Can anyone think of more things that a 5 year old would love doing?
Im going to make the sacks because regular ol' potato sacks are impossible to find! I dont want to do the cheesey jump house.  Give me some suggestions mommas!!!

Thanks!

my daughter''s turning 6, and what i remember from all the parties in the last year is that no matter how many crafts you have set up, really the kids just want to play together. so don't stress too much! they'll have a park to run around in, that's like their natural environment Smiley

if there are any coffee roasting companies around, try them for burlap bags, if you dn't want to make them (tho if you do make them, they'd be cool to send home with the kids).

um..."red light green light" is big in the kindergarten right now. and musical chairs is always a hit. and a treasure hunt, where a grownup leads them around to find various clues until they get to some fabulous prize (pez dispensers or bottles of bubbles or something equally exciting)

My son is 5 and I love to go al out and I did for Halloween this year with all kinds of gross food etc and games, but dang it all I could not get the kids out of the bounce house I rented! I didn't need to plan entertainment.

I teach preschool, they love, musical chairs, pin the tail on... ( i always make somethign that fits what we are doing)  they are nto so coordinated to get 3 legged races and potato sack were tough at our last field day for 5 year olds.  The egg itn eh spoon is good, the over under with TP is good for 2 teams, and the relay with all types of obstacles for each team to do, we had a sit and spin they rant o do then had to get up afetr doing that 15 times as we counted run to the next carrythe egg int he spoon, run tot he next toss the ball in the bucket etc.  My son really wants the pinata too but I did not get him one, i will have to next year,t hey are hard to break still at 5, i figure at 6 it will be easier.

ok, this is kinda dorky, but you could have the kids dip log pretzels into green or blue or red frosting but leave one end unfrosted...

they can take their "lightsaber" with them or they can eat them!

just thinking- it's pretty simple and fun.

happy crafting!

I think Oriental Trading has burlap bags- and, although more expensive, Pottery Barn kids catalog has had them before. I think my friend said she got hers on Ebay.
Good luck!!
And have you seen the new Martha Stewart kids magazine? Lots of party ideas.
