I was pretty impressed with the tutorial I linked to.  When I used it before, I was tatting within ten minutes.  But the whole piece was spiraling (like with macram); that's the part I never sorted out.  Undecided

I got my tutorial reprinted, and had all my supplies together when we went out of town this week so that I could do it in the car if I wanted to - but I never did.  So everything is ready now, but I haven't actually sat down to try it yet.

Here are my first attempts...the shuttle experiment w/a loop that won't close and the needle tatting trial w/a lovely KnoT closing it up... Wink

I'll pick it up again w/the tutorials that you've shared, I'm just not sure when...I'll be out of town for a bit and I'd like to finish up some swap and knitting items while I'm away...=]  I'd love to see your work...and anyone else's just for inspiration! =]

My tatting stuff is all packed up at the moment, but if I get bored between now and moving, I'll dig it out and maybe make something simple to show you.

Woohoo; I did it!  (I took pictures, but will have to wait 'til tomorrow to upload/resize them.)  I can't seem to figure out, though, when making multiple rings, how to get them close enough together.  Is there some "trick" I'm missing?  And what's the best stuff to use for tatting (thread/string-wise)?  I've been using some pretty tiny thread, and I tried some worsted-weight cotton yarn, but I'm thinking that the ideal (for beginning, anyway) is somewhere in between. I'm not sure what to look for if I buy more supplies.

I finally got around to uploading my pictures.  These are what I did the other night:

(I taped it to some paper so it would show up.)

And my MAF swap partner sent me some thread and shuttles and a tatting book with a DVD! Can't wait to try them out!

Yay, I can do it! I don't know why, but I started learning today and made a flower. ell, at least half of it because my tail went shorer and shorter. But I'm so proud of myself! It was a bit difficult, I did it with darning cotton and a darning needle because I didn#t have any tatting supplies, so it was pretty small. (By the way, does anyone know how to make a shuttle from polymer clay?)
I'm still confused about written tutorials, and the only video tutorial I found was a flower, which I've already made. Do you have either good beginner tutorial videos or can explain written patterns to me?
