I've had a busy year for piņata making.

The Death Star

This was made for my dear friends' wedding last weekend.  If you ever make one of these be sure to play the Imperial March while destroying it...it really adds to the experience.  In fact the loud, intimidating music combined with dark lights and some lighting effects made one child burst into tears!

It was quite a success.  I used a beach ball for the shape...the hardest part was the paint job which was mostly just time consuming.

Earlier in the summer I made a swamp monster.

This was for a friend's birthday party/annual get together along the shores of Lake Erie.

There is a bar crawl in Geneva-on-the-Lake...it's called the Monster Crawl, hence the swamp monster.  To make this one I used one regular balloon, 2 small skinny balloons and some thin cardboard.  I used metallic paint, crepe paper, garland and moss for train set models to complete it.

Here's a blurry shot that shows the back.

In May I made a piņata for a friend's birthday party.
It was a simple but cute king character.

I had fun decorating this one.  I used some large plastic eyes and other plastic objects to embellish the face and crown.

Thanks for looking!

The death star is hilarious! Awesome job (and yes, I am an awful person, but +10 points for making a kid cry) . I'd hate to take a bat to it, I'd just want to keep it.

very neat stuff!!  Was the Death Star relevant to the wedding?  I know some people do those themed ones... I've seen Zelda too...

No the wedding did not have a Star Wars theme.  It was for the groom who is a big fan of Star Wars.

I love the Death Star! I might have to make one to hang in our game room. Cheesy But most of all I wanted to say thank you for the beach ball base idea! I always used balloons when I was growing up but developed a latex allergy after I had my son. I figured I would pretty much never get to make another pinata until I read your post. ( ...a beach ball is so obvious now! Why didn't I ever think of that!??!!??)---Great job!

varifiresis;  Thank you!  Beach balls work great...in fact they're better than balloons.  Often balloons will leak or shrivel up.  Plus the beach ball can be used again.  I've also made piņatas using cardboard, plastic bags stuffed with paper and Styrofoam cups as a base.

If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me.  I've learned quite a bit over the past few years about making piņatas.
