I work in a busy trauma center in the ER and collect these pop tops and have decided to start making jewelry with it. the only problem I am having is trying to get a hole in barrettes (metal plain barrettes) so that I can connect them more securely, I don't want them to fall off. let me know what you think

That is such a cool idea! Are those the little cap things you have to 'snap' off of medication vials? I throw a ton of those away every month- what a cool way to use them.
I don't know about barrettes, but there are bobby pins you can buy with a flat pad you could glue them to with something like E6000.

If you're looking for hair clips with holes in them, they sell those as findings. http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H201832FD is an example, but you can buy them in most craft stores (I have some -- they're so useful!)
