This is a cool idea for customizing a journal--I usually go with just the absolute bare minimum of decorations, if I decorate at all, but maybe I'll try this.

I am enormously confused about one thing though--if you use a regular book, do watercolors really work to cover up the words that were already there? Or are you gluing watercolor paper over the existing pages and then painting them? Or do you use acrylic paint to cover up the words and then water color on top of them? I like the idea of using an old book as a new journal, but I don't know if I'll be able to get over the idea of desecrating an old book like that! Lol!

Thanks! Yes, if you use watercolour paint you'll still see the words. Sometimes it's good to block out text using acrylic, but I tend to like having the text as a background. Particularly if it's relevant to the holiday/event. Smiley

You make the best travel journals. Honestly, if I wanted one as good as yours, I'd have to pack YOU.  Cheesy

Haha - my thoughts exactly - although, Racky - I'm sure you would come up with a very awesome travel journal too!!  I would love to give this a try - now to save my pennies so I can go on a vacation!!
Phizzy - you are a true inspiration!!

I'm going to Chicago next month (to the Twilight convention bc yes, I am a nerd Cool)! I think I may need to create one of these. Any glue recommendations? All I have on hand is a regular glue sticks, usually for scrapbooking I use those little sticky squares.

Aw, thank you! I know you would all create awesome journals because they're so personal you can't fail to create something fantastic to represent your travels Grin

I just take a glue stick and one of those little wheely sticky tape dispensers with me, and they generally do a good job. I usually use a tacky white glue for papercrafts, but I'm always amazed at how well the simple glue stick works Cheesy

I remembered another good tip today when sticking some postcards in. If you buy a postcard with multiple images on, you can cut it down so you have lots of little images across several pages. If it's one image, you can crop it into an interesting shape to fit into your journal if necessary. Then, if you carefully peel it apart to get the very top layer off so that the paper is thinner, it doesn't make your page too bulky. Smiley

Gorgeous! I love the shot of you writing on the rainbow pages the best. Even that right there is better than I could ever do. You'd have to come and give me lessons in person if I wanted to make anything even slightly that wonderful!
