Hot water bottle cover

A while back our microwave died, so this winter I've had to go back to a hot water bottle instead of a wheat bag. Perfect chance for a very quick project - It is a really simple design, using some leftover Cleckheaton vintage hues yarn, big needles (7mm I think) and only took a bit under two hours. I made it just a little two short, so there are 3 rounds of crochet around the top.

I love the color changes in the yarn!  Do the eyelets let the heat out better? Or is it just a design feature of the pattern?

Also--I see hot water bottle cozy patterns, but for the life of me, I have no idea where you can actually purchase a hot water bottle???

Hey striker, the eyelets are just there for decoration. If anything, they probably make the cozy less effective as the hot water bottle cools down quicker.

I bought my hot water bottle at my supermarket, but I've also seen them on sale at homewares shops. I live in Melbourne, Aus, though - maybe they are harder to find in warmer climates, or if it's summer where you are?

Very nice! The yarn is beautiful. It looks very warm and soft and cozy. I've been wanting to make one of these for years but have never gotten around to it. I love my hot water bottle .

I shall have to check out my supermarket when it is closer to winter (yep, I live in the US and it is summer here).  Maybe hot water bottles are those things you actually have to look for, as opposed to just coming upon them while shopping.

I got mine at Walgreens or RiteAid or one of those places, striker. They are great for warming up chilly feet and cold sheets. I also use mine for soothing monthly cramps .

With all my hot water bottle does for me, the least I could for it would be to make it a sweater!
