I LOVE it!  I should work on something like this too!  How much yarn do you think it took?

Ah, I knew there was something I forgot to mention. I used about 4.25 skeind of the 3oz (85 grams) Red Heart yarn, on size 8 needles for the body and size 7's for the ribknits. Although...from looking at my grandmother's work and mine, she either has way better guage or used 6 and 7's. Or both, lol. My guage tends to be a little loose. Unfortunately, this is an older RH yarn so it doesn't list the yardage. It's a 4-ply worsted, but feels heavier than the worsted weights they have out nowadays. I will attempt to try a pattern for this, and probably use some Knit Picks, Wool of the Andes. It may take a while though Smiley

I'm really glad you didn't have to unravel your grandmother's knitting, cuz it's so pretty! Esp. The finished product.
Do you remember the name of the pattern?
Because that looks so pretty.
I don't think I would be able to reproduce the pattern, given even a month. U_U
