I love this hat, so this is my attempt!  Its so thick, its like a rug!  Big enough to stretch over my head, but it looks better on my daughters heads!  They love it.

No this is my own pattern.

Note that this is quite large, adult sized, but as you can see fits my nine and ten year old girls fine as well.  It is very thick!  I used four strands of yarn, three types:

From my stash: 1: Red Heart Light & Lofty (light tan/beige, tag missing)
                      1: Lion Brand Homespun Lemonade
2: Lion Brand Landscapes Autumn Trails

I used some new needles from the thrift store unknown number size: HERO 1/2" diameter is what it says.  Hope this helps!

I CO 26 stitches, did two rows of garter, you may want to do three or four rows actually.

I then knit 18 (may have been 20?) in stockinette stitch.  I did a regular bind off and then seamed the back up to make a ridge.  I used a P crochet hook and chained a length of tie, when satisfied with its length I attached it to the raw edge of the hat with sc in the spaces evenly to the other side, then chained an equal length to my first tie, knotted off and viola!  Finished!  was very quick to knit up!  My gauge ended up being about 1 1/2 stitches to an inch.  I had wanted 1 stitch per inch, but was satisfied with what I got.

So basically it starts out as a big rectangle, and then you stitch up one side to make the back ridge? I'm more of a crocheter, but I think even I can make that! Smiley
