Greetings, programs! TRON inspired socks

I designed to be a gift for my big brother, whose TRON fandom and enthusiasm over the release of a second movie inspired the sock design. They were worked toe-up, two-at-a-time magic loop, with a Turkish cast-on and short row heel. I wrote out the chart for the number of stitches in half a sock, to get a mirrored pair with a wrap-around design, I had to read the cart both forwards and backwards. It was a little tricky at first, but not too bad.



I started with a smaller chart for myself to test out the design, and expanded it afterward to make the man-sized socks. I did mine in bad-guy colors. The base of my sock is the Hat Heel sock from the 2009 Fall Knitty, and worked the chart around the ankle.

I think the chart could also make cool wristbands or fingerless gloves, I may do that as a project for fall.

Go for it! Like most things, dpns only look scary, they are actually quite easy to use.  You're only knitting with two needles at a time, just like you would knitting flat or knitting on a circular needle.  I recommend doing a hat pattern knit in the round and practicing using dpns for the top of the hat, that's what I did.  Also- there are many other ways to knit small diameters that don't need dpns; you can use 2 circular needles or 1 longer circular needle to do magic loop.  Knittinghelp.com has video tutorials on these, and you can do a search on you tube for some as well.  We are all here to help you if you get stuck! You know, if you wanted to be a knitting *daredevil* you could skip the DPNs and go right to Magic Loop! That's the only way that I'll work socks these days. I've got some photos and notes on how to cast on for both socks at once in the pattern, but there are heaps of resources around. I recommend checking out a video, that helped me get it the first time.

Oh my gosh I love these! Unfortunately my only ever sock attempt came out sized for an elephant...Which is a lie really since I don't think elephants have ankles like people have ankles. But still they were huge.
