Wow, these turned out really nice!

I made some similar crayons with the boxes of leftover, broken crayons our after-school programs seem to turn in at the end of every year.. but I think some of the crayons were too low-quality to melt properly, because they weren't colouring properly.

Thanks for this wonderful idea. I am educating my children at home, and one part of our lives are handling objects that have seemingly been "used up" for its purpose, so we ask, "Can this serve in another capacity?" before just throwing it away.

Just to give an idea for another "Earth Day" (which is every day in this house hold), I absolutely l-o-v-e reusing oatmeal containers! You know the cardboard containers, on which the label comes off very easily? I'm not sure how far Earth Day is from Valentine's, but I have found that recovered (using old calendars, pretty papers, contact paper, etc) gives a beautiful new life to a cleaned out container. I can easily see a Valentine theme with them, with slits made in the plastic top to slip in the cards and whatnot. Just an idea. Sometime I'll post pics of the containers I've made, which I reuse in my kitchen for loose-leaf tea, dried pastas, dried beans, dried lentils, etc.

Great job using your imagination and spreading it to the young. You're right-- when kids are young, that is the time to teach them, and to let them create and use their vivid and wild imaginations!

Wow.  My daughter (niece actually, long story) would LOVE these.  In fact, we'll probably be doing it this weekend!  Did you have to coat the muffin tin with oil or cooking spray to get them to release?  I'm not sure if they'd stick or not...

I love this idea. I've seen the hearts for Valentine's Day, but I'm thinking I'm going to make my daughter an entire solar system with moons and stars when she studies it. (And I will make a Pluto, it will be our little secret.)
