The Mythical and Magical Seahorse

These are the last pieces I threw and glazed (at least for now) My husband and  I are moving from Seattle to Toronto so I won't be able to do ceramics for awhile.

I was particularly happy about this bud vase because, when I threw it, it stayed on-centre the whole time:

A wonky thrown bud vase (wonky seems to be my specialty ;-)

Small bowl:

Swirl inside the bowl:

For my brother, the Leafs fan:

Small bowl glazed in White Chun (a matte glaze) with a schmeer of Aqua Gemstone (a textured glaze) and a decal made from a graphic I found in a local paper:

Two Corn-on-the-Cob Dishes:

Aerial view:

The corn dishes are stamped, one with a cookie cutter of a steer skull and one of a saguaro. Also, although you can't see it here, the sides are stamped with our favourite saying: Just give'r!

I'd love to hear any comments you have....:-)

I love the blue theme common to all your pottery pieces. I am intrigued with your brother's mug. Am I correct in assuming the leaf shape is pressed into the clay and not glazed? How did you make the lettering so perfectly spaced and square? Any hints?

im not sure if this is how hippie9 has done it but i've used stickers to get a similar effect before Smiley
you stick on a shaped sticker and paint or sponge on a coloured glaze or under glaze. then when the glaze is touch dry you peel the sticker of and volia!
(you can sick stickers onto dry glaze to)

i love the combination of the matt white glaze and soft greens. beautiful.

Thanks, guys! Actually, the Leafs logo was done this way: I printed out a logo off the 'net, photocopied it in black and white, photocopied the photocopy onto decal paper, soaked the decal in water til it slid off the backing paper, applied it to the pot and finally put it in for bisque firing.

It's totally foodsafe so you could put a decal inside a piece and still be able to eat off of the piece.

All these pieces are just fabulous! Your bud vase is amazing Cheesy

I feel ya, I'm having ceramics withdrawal with summer. Ceramics III wasn't offered this fall so I am going to be going a while without. I hope you are able to start throwing soon.
