I'm in a weaving class. We made this, I just finished it today. It's made in a cardboard loom, it's real easy, just time consuming because you have to pack down the yarn so tight.
I'd offer a tutorial if I get enough requests.

i used wool and acrylic, i think? They basically just let us into their leftovers stash (which was humongous) and let us use whatever yarn, so I have no idea, I only used thick yarns (acrylic?) so it'd go faster.

A tutorial would be legendary!
It looks really dense, how hard was it to pack down so tightly?
