Dresses, dresses, dresses! (7 of them--massive post!)

Wow, it really has been a while since I've posted here. I have been making dresses throughout the spring & summer, trying out new techniques & just generally having a good time. I made all my own patterns for everything, which is why things don't always fit perfectly, haha. But it's a learning experience!

So! From the more recent to the oldest, here we go:





This is what I do when I don't have much fabric left! I piece together scraps. I still have a few things I want to work out with the pattern, fit-wise, but I am pretty pleased with it. It has a built-in bra, adjustable straps (thanks, old bra hardware!), elastic ruching in back, and a zipper up the side.









This dress was a bit of an adventure. I hand sewed all the bias tape trim (3 movies worth!), and tried out some new techniques with it. It has horsehair braid trim along the hem for volume, which was something I'd been wanting to try for quite a while. It also has piping, which I'd never done before, and a small heart cutout (which I had done before, just not on such a small scale). It was made out of an old sheet, but I figured I'd post it here rather than split the group up.





I'm kind of obsessed with heart cutouts (& they're really fun to do!).

& then, a white fitted alice-in-wonderland-esque dress with ruching, a double layer skirt, buttons in front, & a big bow belt.







Aaaand a blue test version of the white dress, made out of a sheet with tons of sheep on it:





& finally, a yellow sundress!

I really like what you've been doing!  The heart cut-outs are really sweet, but I'm in love with the yellow dress at the bottom.  Pattern notes/tutorial/any sort of guidance for the lazy who aren't particularly good at drafting that style of dress?

I love them! I've been wanting dresses like this for ages. Very beginning sewer, tho. Any suggestions? (particularly for the 2nd, 4th, and last dresses)

WOW! These are all FANTASTIC! And the photos look great, too. I'm having a hard time choosing a favorite because they all look so great, but I think I'm going to have to go with the polka dot dress. My inner swing kid jumped up and down when I saw that one.

Gah! I love the yellow one! I wish I could sew! Last time I tried to make a dress it looked like I had a tail, or a point where a tail should be!

I think I might just have to wist this...I am truly a dress fanatic.
