How did you get such great detail on the wings?

I almost don't want to blink it is that good.

I first printed out a clip art picture of some wings in a shape I liked and enlarged them until they were the size I wanted, then covered the paper with clear plastic wrap and molded the paper mache into the same out line, with the top a bit thicker than the bottom. For the feathers I rolled little balls out of the paper mache into similar sizes then flattened them into the shape I wanted and made rows that slightly overlapped the row underneath it and the final row at the bottom I didn't add any 'feathers' just made lines to suggest separate feathers. Then I made small lines on the top half of each feather in the center with toothpicks and cleaned up some messy edges. I really lucked out though because I put them on a cookie sheet in the oven to speed up the drying and the top side dried more quickly than the bottom giving a nice arched shape to the pieces. I had no idea that would happen but I love how it turned out!  Thank you for looking!!!!

This is awesome! I was completely freaked out by this episode. I stumbled over your post while looking for a tutorial to make a paper mache angel tree topper. Hmmm, Dr Who Christmas. Now the wheels are turning...

I had a few friends who hadn't seen this yet and it seemed to be a tricky to find.  Hopefully,  I will get a few more views and finally get around to making another one after all this time (with a tutorial). Please let me know if there is anyone  who might still be interested in this.

fabric stiffener is like leather when dry--strong and a bit flexible.  Don't need to use cheesecloth (too much texture), just a thin, drapeable fabric.
