BB reminded me, I have used pull tabs as laceing holes before...here;

The pull tabs are layed 2 back to back.  Then they are wired together just a bit.  One hole is used to lace through ( I have though of crocheting the outside edge..) the other is iron glued and sewn to the body of the garment.  The pearl button was just sewn through the inside tab.

EDIT:  It doesn't have it's own post.  The swap link is here though

ok, your poptab lacing is totally awesome, what a cool idea!

Birdbones, lacing is a fab idea! I think I'll sew everything down and then see how it fits with the buttons that are already there but I guess it's probably going to shrink significantly so lacing would be an ace idea, thanks!

I've started! Pictures later when I've uploaded them! It looks bizarre at the moment so I hope it looks better when I've attached more! Cheesy

Okeydoke here are my progress shots so far. I'm planning on literally photographing the entire process so people will hopefully pick up some techniques and some sort of ideas for how these things can be made and just how easy they are to once you put your mind to it Smiley

Dress chopped off to a length I was happy with. Slants down lower at the back Smiley

Over locked

Added a MOSQUITO NET! Don't worrk folks, I hot washed that thing to death before even considering using it but it was so cheap and a great soft floaty fabric I couldn't not use it! I've actually bunched it up even more since I took this photo so it's quite short. I figured it'd add bulk at the bottom for a cool shape once I've added more bits to it Smiley

Here's the view from the front so you can see, the buttons are so far still functional!

So far so good!

PS, a fantabulous tip is to count exactly how many pins go into your garment and make sure you retrieve the same amount - it's super easy for them to get lost amongst the stitches and they will poke you A LOT if you don't find them all!

LOL pin counting! You can use a magnet wand as well, it'll let you know where any pins are hiding.

That netting is a great idea!
And Sue, that looks neat-o but I don't know what pull tabs are...

Craftylittlemonkey, I think.. THINK they are pull tabs from soda cans! Neat huh?

Here's more pics of what I've been up to this afternoon.. My room is in a total tip now - fabric bomb has exploded everywhere!

Starting to add the next layer using this bias technique I made a teeny tute for you all waaaay back in the thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=354356.msg4211101;topicseen#msg4211101

..hmmmm not sure what I think yet but it's getting there Smiley

A PIN WAND? What is that??? I need one IMMEDIATELY! I gave up on the pin count already and am jut hand sewing everything in place instead - saves the hassle after it's finished and I get poked a million times Tongue

Pin wands are fabulous!
Little magnets on a stick, essentially. You can buy them at most craft/sewing/hobby stores.
You could even make one with a good strong magnet attached to a stick.

This thing here, really such a useful tool.

Beware though, anything metal that you store it with will also become temporarily magnetic, lol. ALL my pins stick together now, it's so funny.
