Knitted Hula Doll
«
on:
July 18, 2010 08:17:56 PM »
Hey guys : )
I've been forum lurking ; ) for about 2 years now, but when I recently completed this doll, I just had to share it. I hope I'm following correct posting etiquette, so if anything is off please let me know!
So my father's birthday was this week, and he is obsessed with Hawaii and tiki related things, so I decided I would make him a little hula girl to hang on his rear-view mirror.
I knit her without a pattern. I used Knit Picks 'Palette' yarn and size 2.75mm DPNs. I didn't have skin colored yarn, so I knit her body in cream, and then dyed her (stuffed and everything!) in tea! She was knit in the round all the way down (one piece) and then I sewed a line down her to shape the legs. The bellybutton was the same concept, just looped through and then knotted and hid in her lower back.
Her grass skirt, and Hawaiian flowers are simple single crochet stitches. And then I embroidered her face on.
I couldn't figure out how to get a nose on her so I left it out, but if anyone has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated!!
She looked kinda like Voldemort before I put her hair on. ;P
Thanks so much for looking! C&C are welcome!

Oh my goodness! What an incredible gift. You really did an amazing job with this project - the shape of the figure turned out perfect and the way you colored it with tea is genius. The details in the face are really nice - I don't think you need a nose at all.
I bet your Dad is soooo happy to receive such a thoughtful gift.
Thanks for sharing!

What a great present for someone who likes Hawaii.
Just goes to show that knitters cannot be stopped with little problems like the wrong colour, etc.
Great work!
And a very happy birthday to your Dad, BTW.

This doll is lovely! I've tried to execute a similar project several times, but can't get the body to look right - yours is lovely - you're very talented.

Supercute! I also think that the tea-dying idea was great!
