I haven't seen any one post this cute little bag in a while so here is my version of
Roman Socks' Little Acorn Project Bag.
Alternate Top Pattern (Link to my
Ravelry Page where there are a few helpful photos for some of the steps):
R1: In a magic ring, ch 2, 8 dc in ring. Join with sls to first dc. (8 st)
R2: ch 2, fpdc around first dc, dc then fpdc in every dc around. Join with sls. (16 st)
(A FPDC is just a double crochet that goes around the post of the stitch of the previous row, rather than in the top.)
R3: ch 2, fpdc around ch from prev row, dc then fpdc in every st around. Join with sls. (32 st)
R4: ch 2, fpdc cluster (start fpdc in fpdc to the right, but before finishing fpdc (2 loops on hook) yo and fpdc into the fpdc to the left (creates a /\ )), dc into stitch behind cluster, dc into next stitch. Repeat fpdc cluster and 2dc around. Join with sls. (48 st)
R5: ch 2, dc in next 3 st, fpdc cluster, dc in st behind cluster, dc in top of fpdc, sk next st, dc in next st, fpdc cluster. Repeat 3 dc and cluster around. Join with sls. (64 st)
R?: Repeat fpdc cluster pattern around, filling in with dc (increase by one dc per row) until the top is the diameter needed (at some point, depending on how tight you crochet, you will have to switch to a front post treble crochet to create larger diamonds).
To create rim:
R?: Repeat fpdc cluster pattern around, filling in with dc but decrease by one dc.
R?: Repeat fpdc cluster pattern around, filling in with dc but decrease by one dc.
If more length is needed:
R?: Repeat fpdc cluster pattern around, filling in with dc, but keep same number of dc as previous round.
If you try out this pattern I suggest using a stiffer yarn, like cotton if possible, otherwise the bag comes out a bit too floppy. Crocheting over a center strand for the bottom section of the bag can help, and the front post double crochet pattern also adds stiffness to the top.
