I may have gone a little overboard this year with the Mermaid Parade. And by little, I mean the oil light on my Bernina turned on twice the month before the parade indicating close to 1,000,000 stitches.
This year my friends and I decided to be 18th-century ship-wrecked ladies who were transforming into mermaids. I sewed and sewed, and then I sewed some more, and in the end had 5 robe a la francaise dresses, complete with wire-hooped panniers. We were supposed to be ship wrecked so our gowns didn't reach the ground, and our sleeves had been ripped off. I glued moss and seaweed to my dress, and some paillettes to be my scales. In my wig is a pirate ship, a lobster, shells, pearl chains, feathers, butterflies, more moss and seaweed, and bows. I also made my necklace using chains, pearls, and cloisonne fish, and sewed bloomers for me and my friend Dinne (we're the "hands" and "deck"). To top it all off, I even recovered my shoes with brocade fabric and decorated them.

Thanks so much you guys! I'm still cleaning up sequins, moss, and fabric from my apartment and the parade was 3 weeks ago.

Nothing short of remarkable!  What a great concept!  Beautiful execution, too.

Shocked These look terrific! The time and effort put into your costumes shines through and I think that your concept is fun and inventive.
