the staples are actually holding up really well! the soles themselves are thick and rubber, so they hold tightly to the staples, plus since the straps are rubber they actually absorb a lot of the pressure that would otherwise be pulling at the staples. so i don't think i need to reinforce them. if the soles were another material i would worry more. But i had to pull out some of the staples when i was making adjustments, and it was a real struggle to get them out.

and the snaps are only at the back of my legs so that i can easily get into and out of the shoes. they don't actually provide any major structural support.

i will add pictures of the improved sandals as soon as i can find someone to photograph my feet!
