I love the duck and the idea of using old embroideries!!  I just placed a bunch of old stained runners from my grandmother out in the garbage/give-away pile---I will retirieve them when I get home and cut out the best bits...I had no idea how to use them...wow--great ideas!

I am using the crochet cotton only for the quilting--it takes a lot more thread than I thought, especially if you quilt tightly...I love the pearle cotton for the whip stitching and embroidery...the round rolls run about $2.50 each...

I have three more pillows to go before my panel is done...I have no idea how to embellish them, other than buttons so I am going to review the videos and the pics here for ideas...

Here is the link for  good dyes in the UK..........they send to me in Holland and the contact guy Stuart is really very helpful on the phone. He even phoned me back  when i emailed my order to tell me how much it would cost to send and to do the credit card details..........excellent service.

Home page then look at dye kits and introductory kits

Disperse dyes are fro colouring plastic. I have an introductory kits of Reactice CD dye kits for cold and hot water use you get the chemicals you need with the kit.

http://www.kemtex.co.uk/index.html

My last kits lasted for years using tiny amounts here and there and using salt in place of urea to 'fix' the colours.

Cazz! The DUCK! Oh, that is brilliant!

Ok guys, is today the day I get started on this or not? I tidied up in here last night (again) so maybe I can cut some squares out... I have a very specific idea that's not been done yet and I'm excited to show you so let's see what I can do.

And backs..

This one i'm in the process of quilting..

Same one just other side..

I'm just wondering how to quilt the pillows with the words and the picture without messing it up, any ideas?

ok--I can see now that I have been doing the whip stitch wrong!!  My backs look horrid...and I am not quilting all the way through the back some of the times since I am using a running stitch to make the quilting go faster...is the back critical?  I am making a purse and plan on lining it anyway so that no harm will be done to the stitching...I will do better next round!

I love your beadwork minus!!!

I think if you quilt through to the back you would get more "definition" in the quilting parts....I'm planning on making a purse/totebag as well and will cover all the backs with some lining.  I'd like to add some little pockets inside on the lining part too...

That's it always - if you go all the way through you get more of a textured result - just through the top and it will probably remain pretty flat which may or may not be the look you're going for.

altered - love the button and beads - great work!

Quilt around the words and the odd stitch underneath words if needed.

Great work so far. Love the buton and beads.

hmmm--when I post pics tonight, I will be sure to show the backs...I think the whip stitching is the worst part but it looks ok on the front...thanks for the help...I am glad that I have lots of scraps to keep trying...I have been sewing them together as I go so I have an idea of what size I need to make...

DOH!!  it never occured to me to just write the words with a fabric marker.  I picked up some wonderful fabric markers a few years ago and they would certainly help on a project I'm dreaming up.

Minusxl3lindfold:  I love the black, red and white pillows!
