I just took mine apart and starting laying in some backgrounds.  Right now I'm doing water colors, when I get tired of those I'll switch it up to acrylics and then maybe some decorative paper backgrounds.  I just want to have a good selection to work on when I'm ready.

Loud Howard - if you look at your book, it's all done in one big stack, folded in half and sewn up.  It's easy to take apart, and if you're careful while working on it, you can reuse lots of the pages and the cover, just go back and sew right back through the original holes to put it back together.  I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do for mine, but I will taking out some pages and adding in pages of my own, just making holes in the new ones to match the old ones, if that makes sense.

I'm going to reinforce the spine with some gaffer tape before I stitch the pages back in. That should keep the paper from tearing.

oh my. I have just spent an hour reading through this thread and can't decide if it has made me more excited or more scared to attempt this!

Are any of you basically novices at this, or are all of you as amazing as you seem? Smiley  I do cards etc and have been planning an altered book, but I haven't ACTUALLY done one yet so this feels a bit presumptuous of me to join...

(I also, just yesterday, got into an argument with my husband about money being spent on craft supplies and that they are taking over the house...)

Hmmmm... off to think about this! (but I am excited to watch this thread no matter what I decide!)

I am a total newbie at anything like this DawnsTrees!  I promise you won't be the only one a little lost out here.  I've experimented with some different things, never actually finished a book though, so we will be in the same boat.

And just to let everyone know - I took my book apart last night, did some painting on the pages, and then started thinking about how to put it all together.  I was sitting there looking at it when it dawned on me: Run it through the sewing machine, duh!!  So, I did.  I set it on the longest stitch possible and then just zipped it through.  It held up really well.  In fact, the one page that did rip was ripped before it got anywhere near the machine, lol.  Just thought I'd tell you guys one more way to put it together!

I will have pics asap but right now I am on my way to the in laws for dinner so I can't get to it yet Sad

DawnsTrees, I've also never done anything like this before. This will be my very first journal.

Annndd, it's sitting here, right here...mocking me. I can't even pick it up anymore. I'm almost afraid of it, hehe. It's so bad that I finally broke down and traveled to Blick's and bought a 3-pack of the kraft brown, (that I initially wanted) and have decided to play around in one of those first...you know, to see how it all goes.

It's now mocking me as well. Darn sketchbooks!  Roll Eyes

Racky, loving that you are out there blazing a trail!

DawnsTree it is very daunting - Ive never done a sketchbook/journal before - so Im a bit scared but it will be a fun challenge ! Smiley

I think the hardest part will be starting - but probably after 3 or 4 pages it will become more fun and easy Smiley

I have written down about 30-40 ideas that I want to do as pages. So then when my book gets here I can pick an idea from the list and give it a go Smiley

Im just not sure what to do with the cover yet though..
