The Sketchbook Project Craftalong 2010

So after promising myself I would start working on my sketchbook by September 1st, I finally started it today, October 9. Just shows the true procrastinator in me.  Anyways, heres the page spread I did today. My theme is 'Help!' and I'm doing my pages based of some lyrics from the Beatles album.

That page is fantastic, Sticker.

I just got back from my bookbinding class. The teacher was a young woman who assured me that I'll be able to reassemble my Moleskine after taking it apart. We just learned the pamphlet stitch but she thinks I can just use two sets to put my book back together. So I'm relieved. And she works in a store in my neighborhood so I can ambush her for help if needed in the future!

I've been working working on my book... I guess I have a lot of time, without a "real job" so I don't have an excuse to procrastinate So I have a couple pages to share, plus more later that I haven't photographed yet.


This one features my dog, and I've finally been experimenting with layers like I've been wanting to. 12 layers on this page! 


Then I finished the other side of this "you make kitty scared" spread. It has a few layers, too, maybe 3 or 4.

Lol, I hope you guys aren't getting sick of seeing me post all these! I just wanna help motivate! I wanna see more pages!

I need to go home and scan some photos. I went into lurk mode on this thread so I wouldn't get caught up in talking about how I needed to get pages done and stressing about it. I'll come back an post some but I thought I'd share something with you guys.

I always seem to get that one copy of my resume that sits in my bag for too long and becomes too wrinkly to be presentable. The texture of the nice linen paper is perfect for drawing skyscrapers in crayon. Gives extra texture to the windows. I'm enjoying a lazy Sunday at my friend's apartment drinking tea and drawing giant dinosaurs rampaging downtown Los Angeles. Wish I had my book to make a final drawing out of it.

We've talked about representing craftster in our sketchbooks. Is anyone thinking of including something representing the city/town/state they live in? Also I need suggestions for a spread. I'm kind of doing a word collage of what my sketchbook actually is because my theme is "This is not a sketchbook" but I'm running out of words to write down lol I guess this is a question more for those who do altered art journals. So far I have words like: companion, adventure log, therapy, a peek. What is your journal to you?

  I totally agree. I need to pay some attention to mine. It's on my craft table staring at me, but I've been successfully ignoring it for quite some time now.

Second spread, possibly done. I wanted to use a real pocket to 'hide' the love in, but all the jean pockets I had to use were too big for the page. So paper it was. I was thinking maybe adding a little more, around the edges? But with the plaid background I dont want it to end up too busy. What do you think?

And my journal began as a challenge but now I am having too much fun. It's making me feel confident because it is a project that I normally wouldn't have chosen to do for myself. But I am making another "junque" journal, along with my official Sketchbook project journal, so I am trying out stuff in the companion one. Just waiting for some goshdarn alphabet rubber stamps to arrive from overstock.com then I can get busy! And it's fun working in the group - I certainly know alot more about glue!
