Okay - so this quilt has a lot of firsts for me:
- first time using a jelly roll
- first time with a pieced binding
- first time making my own binding
- first time using a pieced back

I am quite happy with how it came out!

The top:

Close ups of the fabrics and binding:

The back:

I didn't have enough of the polka-dot fabric, and had a bunch of the quilt blocks left over as well as several strips of jelly roll, so this is what happened!

Here is a closer pic of the piecing on the back:

Thanks for looking!  C&C welcome! Grin

I really like your choice of batik-ed fabrics. Did you make them too? Your quilt is very vibrant and I did a double take when I first saw the picture because I first thought it was one of those optical illusions! You have way more patience for all that piecing than I.... Awesome~

Thanks!  And no, I didn't make the batik fabrics - I don't have that kind of time or skill!  But I really do love batiks, and I like how they all came together nicely in this quilt!  I just hope all the white fabric doesn't get all dirty too quickly . . .

I love it! The pattern is perfect with those prints, the sashing keeping it from being too busy. I really like the backing, too!

Thanks, all!  I have another jelly roll of these same fabrics - I think I might try a rail fence pattern with them - will post that when (if) I get that done! Grin

I'm going to sound like a moron, but since I haven't yet tried my hand at quilting....

What is jelly roll ?

Beautiful quilt! Makes me want to try it out.

Definitely not a moron! Cheesy

A jelly roll is a roll of strips of fabric cut 2.5 inches wide across the width of the bolt of fabric, so usually 2.5 inches by 44 inches.  I think they usually have 40 strips in them, though mine had something like 44 or 45.  They are generally all from some fabric designer's collection, so tend to coordinate really well.  Saves a lot of time on cutting, but then you have to find a pattern you like that uses those size strips.

Jelly Rolls make awesome Log Cabin quilts with blocks a bit larger than usual, but still very nice. in fact, that would be a really good first-time quilt. the strips would be pre-cut and the piecing of a log cabin is super simple if you can do chain piecing.

This is so beautiful!  I remember seeing that pattern in a book of Jelly Roll quilts, and not being that impressed with the fabrics they used.  I like yours a LOT better!  Much more dramatic!

Very Pretty!  I actually this same quilt as a WIP right now.  Did you use a pattern?  I saw it on the front of a book somewhere (actually an ad for the book) and decided to figure it out for myself.  Plus, I'm making it King size and a lot of the patterns I see are for much smaller quilts.  I love your color choices, mine is going to be juicier, brighter colors, but I like yours a lot too!  Nice to see it all finished, now I am re-inspired to pull mine off the back burner!

Thanks!  Yes, I used a pattern.  I borrowed a quilting book from teh library that had a lot of jelly roll quilts in it, and this was the one I decided on.  I might have to borrow it again to pick another!  I'm looking forward to seeing your finished quilt!

And thank you everyone for the very nice comments!! Grin

Your quilt is gorgeous!  Today I saw my first jelly roll quilt book, and none of the quilts looked as good as yours does.  Wow!  Great job!

I love that the block placement looks squiggly if seen from a distance.  And I'm not usually a fan of batiks but you managed to pick all the cool ones and make an awesome quilt!

Finishing something that looks this fabulous is very liberating!  For years I read quilt books and tried to follow the "directions" ~never getting much to the finished stage.  When I threw it all out the window ~so to speak~ and realized there were no Quilt Police..my creativity took off!  Now I quilt on MY terms..I've finished 5 quilt tops in the last few months..and loving it!

Great job on all your firsts!  May you have many many more. =)
