I just recently discover Craftsterwhat an awesome web site! I am an eco designer and have a small business that focuses on making vintage reproduction clothing out of reclaimed fabrics (i.e. bed sheets, curtains, etc). So I was super excited when I heard about this challenge!

For the challenge I made myself a 1930s style dress with a matching cloche hat. I chose the 30s because I need a 30s/40s outfit for an upcoming eventso why not kill two birds with one stone. Wink The only problem was that up until now Ive only made 60s and 70s reproductions!

I have a large collection of vintage patterns, yet I didn't have any from the 30s or 40s. So I had to get creative!  I used McCalls 9187 pattern to make my dress. It is a 1968 pattern, but because of the dresss low waist, if done in the right fabric, has a 30s look. So I carefully selected the sheets to use for my dress. For the main part of the dress I chose an off-white, queen size, vintage bed sheet with an orange/brown floral print.  For the contrast on the dress (collar, front band, and belt) I used a twin size rusty orange bed sheet.

The finishing touch of the outfit was the cloche hat! I made the hat using a scrape of heavy weight rusty orange fabric I had laying around, and lined it with the floral print bed sheet fabric. The hat lining really pulls the two pieces together making a perfectly charming 30s outfit.

The wonderful husband took the fabulous photos of this outfitthanks honey!

It's lovely and the color completely suits you.  Well done in reworking a 60's pattern too!

This is such an adorable look! I love clothes with a vintage look to them, and the 30s were definitely an underrated decade, fashion-wise.  Wink You look great!
