The other day I came across a feature on a jewellery maker who makes miniature models of terrariums as jewellery, which got me thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to make some real terrarium jewellery?

I have whole lot of plastic ‘test tubes’ which the 100-yen shop sells glass beads in, and lots and lots of kiwi-fruit seedlings after sowing the seeds from a supermarket fruit, so I decided to combine the two. Now I’m on the look out for some pretty little perfume bottles, which I think would give the plant a little more space and look really nice.

I got the plant into the tube by carefully rolling the seedling and compost in paper, sliding the paper into the tube, and then turning it upright and pulling the paper out.

There are more pics and a full tutorial on my blog Smiley

Hopefully I can update soon with some growth!

What a lovely idea  Smiley
I've got some small glass vials that I might try this with, but the vials are only about an inch tall so I'm not sure if it'll work so well.

That is so cool. I wish I would have thought to do this in highschool, my biology teacher would have loved it.  He was kind of a plantfreak. And a hippy.  Who knows what he would have grown in there.

When my hubby's gets me roses, there's a dozen little tube things like these that I'm always looking for uses for. I've made little seed starters out of em, I've made a pen holder and a necklace with little colored candies in it, but I never thought to put the two ideas together! Thanks for sharing a green (x2) idea!

I'd love to make a few with moss found in our yard. It's a gorgeous shade of bright green right now. (c'mon spring!)

This is such a great idea. My daughter would love something like this. How well have the plants in these necklaces held up over time?
