Alright, so I've had this old jewelry box in my room for ages. My mom used to be a geriatric social worker, and she got it from one of her patients who passed away. I didn't think to take before pictures, but it was really not much to look at. Just natural wood with black accents. All scratched up, too.

This past spring break I finally decided to do something about it, and here it is!

Here it is opened all the way. I had to make the picture small because it was so wide, sorry.

Detail of the lace.

And a detail picture of how the (pretty awesome) hinges work.

First I took the whoooole thing apart (It is held together by 28 screws, plus two hinges), sanded it down, and spray painted  it all black. Then I sprayed it with about 100 coats of varnish to make it nice and shiny. then I painted the insides turquoise, mod-podged bits of lace inside, and put the whoooole thing back together.

That looks like an old fashioned sewing box!  My mom used to have one and I recently ran across one in a thrift shop & snatched it up - only mine has little legs.  Looks like you did a great job - what a lot of work taking it all apart!
