This bed sheet challenge was a stellar idea!  I'm entering the shirt/skirt set my mom and I made. But, really it's the underskirt I made during this challenge.  I used a pinkish colored King-size sheet set that was sun damaged.

The top is loosely based on Simplicity's 9966 Costume Pattern.  I changed the shape of the sleeves and added fullness and length to the whole thing.  The sleeves have drawstrings at the neck, upper arms and wrists.

The underskirt was made from the fitted sheet.  Pretty much just cut a hole in the center of the sheet and trimmed off the elastic.  The king-sized sheet was so large, the length is perfect for a full length skirt.  Smiley   So, it's a full circle skirt made all in one piece, except the drawstring casing waistband.

I still plan to make bloomers out of the extra long pillow cases.

We still have a small amount of the flat sheet left over.  I'm thinking a pouch or coif-type thing for her head.  I'm set on using up every scrap.  Smiley

There are more details and pics on my blog.

Fantastic! As a former costume shop helper/model, I know the incredible amount of construction and fabric that goes into these outfits! The underskirt you made really enriches the heavy, dark over skirt.

I bow to your dressmaking skills.

Thank you to everyone for the kind comments.  Mom is already digging through her cabinets for more mismatched sheets to use for more garb.  Smiley

I -love- to attend Celtic Fairs and Renaissance Fairs, I have priced outfits several times and they are very expensive.  Yours is just fantastic and much prettier than what I have seen of late.  The detail and construction are outstanding, the sleeves fall beautifully...wow.. great job.

That is absolutely stunning! I'd have never guessed that it was a bedsheet. Which is funny because I have a skirt somewhere that was made out of a shower curtain lol.

So very lovely! Looks expensive.

Yes, Caroline92f, garb can get really pricey.  Our renaissance faires are filled with "Playtrons" (garbed patrons) who dress to the nines and easily outdo the cast.  They can spend way into the thousands on there outfits.  Hundreds can be spent just on the underclothes.  Even hand-making these clothes can cost a small fortune in fabric.  I'm all for cutting expenses wherever possible.  Smiley

Though, using the bed sheet had the disadvantage of making my mom's underclothes very thick unlike light weight fabric like cotton gauze.  But, this outfit will be worn in the fall/winter, so she should be okay.

Thanks again, everyone, for taking time to comment.  I appreciate the support.  Please vote!

Looks great! I hope you're taking it to a Renaissance Fair to show it off! It looks better than a lot of the stuff they sell there!

Yes, she's definitely going to be at faire in it!  She's going to wear this to Texas Renaissance Festival (TRF) near Houston.  We attend others in the Spring, as well.  I'm usually covered just about head to toe in pop tabs.  Smiley

I'd enjoy seeing pics of how yours came out.  I may be making my own set.  I need more tops and bloomers.  I could probably just use a queen or full set, though.  The skirt is what takes up all the fabric.

Well, executed use of sheets.  I work with a small theatre and know that as long as the motel in town wants to get rid of their older sheets, I will always have plenty of great material for costuming...

This is the best work that I have seen in Renaissance.  You did a beautiful job , I hope that when you wear it others turn green with envy or ask you to make them one.
