This is my first STARTER thread/post... lol

I have been all crafty the past couple days, completed a patchwork quilt that was to be a patchwork skirt, but whatever, its beautiful.  I am very pleased, esp since it was my FIRST EVER patchwork project.

Anyway, I created my 5.5 yr old a dress today and wanted to show it off. I used no pattern... honestly it takes me 10X longer to create a garment using a pattern than it does for me to just take a piece of fabric and start cutting/sewing.

This dress is shirred at the top/bodice area, and also on the sleeves-giving it that ruffle and  puffiness.

I am uber excited about it and she LOOOOVES it!  Asked if she could put it on after her bath and sleep in it so she could wear it again tomorrow... lmao!

She refused to allow me to make her a more 'summer style' dress, insisted it needed to be "party dress length mommy!!!"  Regardless, I am pleased with it.  Plan to create one for the little tomorrow, our 2 yr old.

Given the fact this is my first time attempting to put photos on the page, please excuse any mishaps.

Gorgeous! Looks comfy and modest, definitely a plus at that age! :-)

It's beautiful.  I know I would have loved a dress like that at that age--it's just *perfect* as a princess dress.

I'm impressed.  How do you create a dress without a pattern?  Especially the bodice?

This is sooooooooo cute Smiley My 2 year old needs one!!  Actually, I've been scouring the net looking for tutes on dresses that are easy, over the head dresses that I can make her.  I've not mastered zippers or buttons yet.  I'm more of a bag lady anyways!  If you did a tutorial, I'd be happy to try it out!

Your little girl is too cute for words!

Aren't you glad you can sew. My grand daughter, who lives across the country wanted a dress. They went all over, hard to find any, and the ones they found were NOT modest. Finally found a  sundress she wears t shirt under. Yours is so much cuter.
