Some years ago, I was going on a trip to Israel, and I needed a long skirt/dress I could throw on over my summer teenager garb to be "modest" at religious sites.  This dress was born out of a flat sheet, one of a set my grandmother sent my mother away to college with.  We can date it to the early 1970s. It's a lovely no-iron percale.  And it's LOUD!

Here I am, camouflaged on the remaining fitted sheet I did not cut up.  See if you can find me:

Here I am, in repose on our 4-poster bed my grandmother is also responsible for:

Some outdoor shots so you can see my mad posing skills:

Between the outdoor shots and the indoor shots, I finally fixed the straps, which were set way too wide and I was always chasing as they slipped down my arms.  I have never hemmed it, because I am a lazy butt.  I had originally intended to shorten it considerably when it had finished its usefulness on my Israel trip, but I found I liked it as is.  And it hasn't frayed in 13 years, because percale rocks.  Flower power and all.
