I decided to try my hand at decopauging shoes with comic book pages.  My ultimate goal is to one day to this to a pair of knee high boots with either Green Arrow or Deadpool comics, but for a first try I used some cheap shoes I picked up on sale at Wal-Mart and Batman comics that featured Poison Ivy from the clearance comics bin at Half Price Books.  All in all, I think they turned out pretty well.

Both shoes, newly finished, on top of my laptop.  Ignore the glitter.  It was for another project.  XD

Ivy coming on to Robin, featured on the left shoe's toe.

Outside of the left shoe.  The text says "Far From the Tree", which was the name of one of the issues I used.

Inside of the left shoe.

Toe of the right shoe.  I'm particularly proud of the detailed cut out of Ivy I used here.

Detail of Batman holding Ivy on the right heel.

Outside of right shoe.  This is probably the only part that has a lot of consecutive panels on it.

Great! I love how the overlap in images keeps the 'comic book feel'. Poison Ivy is so hot. People with Poison Ivy shoes are even hotter.... I'm also tempted to try decoupage on shoes. Can you wear them out without damaging them? Were you using that 'outdoor' mod podge?

Yes, I second all those questions! These are just too fantastic to not be able to wear, right?

Unfortunately, I'm a size 9 or 10 depending on the shoes.  Sad

I used regular mod podge combined with spray on acrylic sealant.  I can't really wear them well in rain (though I wouldn't given the type of shoe that they are), which is why I'll be trying the outdoor Mod Podge on my next project.  They do start to bend and crack at areas where the shoes take stress--i.e. the bend near the toes--but it honestly doesn't make them look bad.

My one bit of advice: make SURE that you sand down the surface thoroughly before you start gluing pieces on.  If you try gluing it down to an unsanded surface, the paper pieces will have to be held in place until they are somewhat dry.  I also recommend doing this while going through a movie marathon.  Total hours to complete the shoes is around two or three, but there was a LOT more time spent waiting on parts to dry.
