Never thought I'd be making socks, but I found a pattern on Ravelry that seemed like it would be easy.  Once I got used to keeping track of four knitting needles, each with TWO ends to drop stitches from, it wasn't too bad.  I used some cheap acrylic yarn because I thought I'd end up getting frustrated enough to pitch the whole thing in the trash, needles and all.  But, as you see, I did both socks with no serious mishaps.

Congrats on your first socks!  They look great, I really like the yarn and the way it striped.  :-)

Yay for first socks that fit!!  Grin Prepare for some major sock knitting, because once you start, it seems you can't stop (in my experience, anyway).

What yarn did you use? The colorway is lovely!

It's a Red Heart acrylic worsted.  I got it at Wal-Mart for a couple of bucks.  I didn't want to use expensive wool on my first try.  I have some really nice hand-spun wool I got at a craft sale that I'm going to try next.

That's great! Red Heart (along with other popular acrylic brands) always washes up nice and soft.  I love how the colors didn't pool either.  Do your feet fit ok into shoes when you're wearing the socks? Or do you plan to wear these just around the house?

Fantastic job! They really turned out great. The colors are really nice - love the blue/green tones.

So...how did you feel after you finished the first one? Were you excited to complete sock #2 or dreading having to do the same thing over again? This is the key symptom of SSS (second sock syndrome). I have a particularly bad case of it.

Have you tried 2 at a time? I've found it works pretty well for SSS, at least in my case, although it does feel like my pair of socks are taking FOREVER to finish that way.  Also, there are some patterns that reverse the pattern for the other sock to make the pair symmetrical...those might be able to help too.  But then again, even if you decide not to knit socks because of that, there are so many other great (non-sock) patterns out there!!  Grin

Sorry I haven't  answered!  I've been sewing recently and haven't been in the knitting board.

striker923 - yes, they are a little bulky, but they are OK in most of my shoes and boots.

I didn't experience SSS with this pair because I wanted to WEAR them so I had to have two!  One sock goes so quickly that doing the second one isn't that daunting.

Thanks, everyone for the encouraging comments!  I want to try a toe-up pattern next.  Does anyone know of a relatively easy one?
