i'm an artist, and i do digital illustrations, and i was wondering what people thought about doing an art swap?  i'm WAY more artsy than i am crafty, and i always shy away from certain swaps because i'm afraid i wouldn't be able to do anything appropriate.  so i'm thinking of an art swap - meaning YOUR art, not a reprint of a famous person's art.  we could do a theme within art, but let's see if anyone is up for it first.

sounds like a good plan. i too, am artsy and have only been crafting for the past 4 years, i formally have a art background and crafting can def. be intimidating for an artist, so i understand. I will swap with you because it's not fair that you can't enjoy the experience of swaping, though i'm sure there is a die-hard crafting nut just waiting to explode from within! Grin

SheRa, I'm in a similar situation to yours.  I'm in one swap (just sent the box yesterday), and I was able to do it because my swap partner requested artwork for decorating her new home.

If you could get an even number of artists and crafters, maybe people could be paired up based on that - craft people would receive art pieces, and artists could request crafts that they don't know how to make.

One thing I discovered recently is that, if you have drawing skills, it is pretty easy to pick up embroidery.  I don't yet know how to sew clothes/bags/etc. on which to stitch, but I have done a couple of designs on pre-bought items.

I've done a couple swaps so far, but I made sure that I had a plan for what to craft or design before I joined up.  I did a few CD swaps where I made the CD artwork too, which was fun.  I'm teaching myself to sew and I'm decent at making earrings out of stuff using jump rings, but my true love is drawing/painting/illustrating stuff.

It is a good idea to do a swap between an artist and a crafter.  I'd have to see how many people are interested.  It's always so amazing what people come up with!

Keep me in mind!  I would definitely sign up as an artist, and I would look for people who can sew, make papercrafts, or make soap to trade me something that I can't make.

I can draw pretty well, but I can't sew worth a dingiehoo.  I'd love to swap a portrait for knitted top or a dress.  But even just an art swap sounds fun.

I am more of an installation artist, but I do also make object based work.  I would be interested in a swap, but I am brand new so it would depend on the sign up date.

I would still like to do this if I could exchange my art for someone else's craft.  I would especially love to be paired with someone who can sew.  I'm eagerly awaiting the new clothes that my Wish Swap partner just sent (in exchange for my portraits of her kids).  I think this is a great way to help people get something that they just don't have the ability to make on their own.

This sounds great! My passion is photography - I still feel a bit of an idiot on the craft-front!
