I use the same system and really, winding those bobbins doesn't take too long, especially if you're watching television.  Once you wind a couple, you barely need to look and before you know it, a box o' floss is waiting for your next project.

Floss bobbins are also handy color chips!  More than a few times, I've matched a floss bobbin to a large or heavier item not convenient for carrying and used it to color match an item while shopping.

Why thank you, Beffielou!  At the risk of inviting envy, take a look at this Craftster link with more floss organization, on page 19 of 28.

My Woman bought me the little DMC thread winder because she used to be the little manual labor for her grandmother who did embroidery. She paid all of 1.50 for it and I don't even think I got that much value from it. XD I am semi anal in the winding of them now, and it just wasn't making the thread spread out evenly! How was I going to ensure they didn't take up more space than needed in the storage boxes? My birthday is coming up and I may just ask for gift cards so I can make myself some pretty boxes like you have!

I understand what you mean about it being relaxing and quick. I went through my 30 or so in no time. I think I am going to like this way of organization.

I haven't taken pics yet, but I now have 90% of the floss stash bobbined and in craft boxes (Hobby Lobby $1.99 each).  I also buy the plastic bobbins, they're sturdier than the paper ones (packs of 25 from DMC, prices vary by store).

I have 2 of the DMC pink plastic rollers, but they were taking too long...and winding by hand took longer.  One of the many reasons I love my husband is that he comes up with unique solutions to ease mundane tasks (he's a manufacturing plant manager).

He showed my how to wind my bobbins with a cordless screwdriver. Takes a bit of practice but you can get them even and flat.

I will try to get a tutorial filmed this week and posted.

For the floss I haven't used yet, it is Ikea block stack boxes according to colors and go from light to dark. The floss that is half used is every where else around the house.
