This was my very first attempt at free motion stippling a quilt. I was nervous that I would ruin the whole thing but it ended up being really fun!

Pattern is New Wave form Oh, Fransson. I made mine with a dresden ruler for smaller, skinnier waves.

LOVE how it came out of the dryer all crinkly and soft!

It's far from perfect but I will definitely be trying this kind of quilting again!

so cute!  I love this pattern, and I love the fabrics you chose for it.  I was super nervous the first time I did free motion, but once you wash it, all of your mistakes pretty much disappear, so it's become a favorite quilting method of mine too :)

hmmm...tips...I suppose the biggest tip would be to just try it! I made a few small attempts on little projects like potholders or just made mini sandwiches of fabric scraps and scrap batting. I know it's really scary when you've put so much time (and money) into choosing fabrics, cutting and piecing them all into a quilt top. You REALLY don't want to mess it up!

I've found lots of great info online and love the tutorials over at Oh, Fransson. She has one on free-motion quilting. I'm pretty sure Crazy Mom Quilts has one too. I've also heard others recommend getting quilt panels in the children's section of the fabric store and make an easy quilt sandwich to practice on. Then they send the quilts off to charity - a nice way to get practice for a small investment that ends up keeping a child warm and snuggly.

Mostly have fun!
