aw that is  too cute Smiley

I'm a sucker for any and everything ladybug.

The earth, stained with the blood of a thousand dying soldiers, weeps as she welcomes them home.

That's cute!
I'm throwing a ladybug birthday party for my soon to be two year old daughter.
Something like that would make cute decorations!

this is the centerpiece... her theme is ladybugs too...

some things...

I found cute ladybug plates and cups on "Oriental Trader" on line.

I picked up a clearance set of ladybug ornaments on Oriental Trader cheap too - not sure what I will do with them yet. Also Target has deck lights that are ladybugs. I also had some crafts with ladybugs that I did with my oldest.

Matching t's for the girls ot wear at the birthday are coming up too...

Thanks for some more ideas!  They are appreciated.  Oriental Trading has some really cute stuff!

I am also making ladybug wings for all the girls coming to my party using some instructions and inspiration from another thread in this forum.  Oh, and antenna headbands using black headbands, black pipecleaner/chenille, Styrofoam balls and lots of glitter.

We should post pictures in the party planning section when we are done!

One question.
How did you get the shape for your ladybug?  Did you use two balloons, or a balloon shaped that way already, or something else?  I don't know much about paper mache, guess I'll have to do some google and craftster research!

Thanks again for a great centerpiece idea!

Hey - you've got some great ideas!! I love the ladybug wings and antennae idea!! Maybe save it for big sis's fifth b-day which will quite probably be Miss Spider. Since there are so many bugs in that series it would be fun.

The ladybug is two balloons that weren't fully encased so I could join them together at the openings. I would also suggest doing about four-six layers layerd newspaper and then pop the balloons and do  egg carton paper mache  or toilet paper paper mache over that as you can build up thickness and strenth much more quickly.

I did quite a bit of research too as I hadn't done PM before and this was my first PM project. This site is the best and I am linking you directly to the page with the recipes for toilet paper and egg carton paper mache:

Oh and toilet paper mache is nice as you can let your daughter help with the tearing - I had both the girls tearing it up they had great fun.

You should also take a look at the galleries I was amazed at what can be done with PM.

I think pics in the party section is a great idea - my daughter's b-day is May 28th - yours?

I've been contemplating doing paper mache for some time, and looking at all of those pictures here and on the paper mache website totally inspired me to get started.
