I just started geocaching recently, and I have to admit, I'm HOOKED. Wondering if anyone would be interested in a swap with geocaching swag, e.g. GPS cozies, shirts, etc.

ABSOLUTELY!  I took my daughters and her friends out today, unfortunately we had a DNF.  And it was a darn puzzle cache that my daughters friend worked an hour and a half on.  We'll be going after that one again soon.  I'm currently trying to top my sisters #'s.  I know it's not supposed to be about the numbers but we live in different states and this is just another way for me to irritate her.  Yay.  We're headed to GeoWoodstock in July and I cannot wait.

Oh man! I totally love geocaching!  Cheesy

What about making crafts to put into geocaches in different places? Like...my friend went geocaching in Scotland, he mailed me what he found, I thought it was really cool that I got a geocache all the way from a different country.

Just an idea.

*bumpity bump*

I'd love to see this happen!

I launched my first travel bug a few months ago. I think it would be so cool to craft a travel bug for someone else to launch or maybe even craft things for our partners to hide a cache of his/her own.  Oooohhh...this would be so cool!

I actually had dreams last night about what I would make for this swap  Cheesy Anyone want to get it off the ground?  If the time were a little more right I would want to try organizing, but my little girl's first birthday is coming up, then off to camp for 4 days, then a baby due in August.. I can work out crafting time, but not organizational time...

I think there's probably enough interest already.  We just need someone to volunteer to organize.  Smiley

I would be interested in this too. I've been geocaching for years with my parents and just started letterboxing and getting addicted to carving stamps!

I'll have to think about organizing, it's been a really long time since I organized, so i'd have to think about it.

zigg13pra - I think I would definitily mix both into it, letterboxing is more crafty anyway.

I can organize but I won't be able to set it up until next week. Do you all have any ideas for swap amounts? Requirements? I am thinking some crafted items for the partner and then 3-5 very small items to be put into the geocache or something similar for the letterbox. I would probably try to pair up people who do the same one.

Let me know what you think and I will let you all know when it's up!

I was planning on including stuff for in the cache no matter what the requirements were so I think making some cool items for caches would be great.

I've not ever been a part of letterboxing, but looked it up and it seems interesting.

I never know on swap amounts, but I think one or more mediums and a small number of smalls would be good. The main portion being for the partner obviously. As for time, I'm fine with starting next week and having however long everyone else feels comfortable with. I'm good with 2 weeks, a month, 5 weeks, whatever works

I haven't managed to dig up my craft room stuff after the move so if this happens too soon I might have to sit it out. I try to attend craft night once a week when my sheldule permits, but I have limited time and supplies at the moment. If the craft time is long I might be able to join.

For sizes. 2 mediums and a bunch of swag/small stuff? Then those that want to go big can combine the two mediums into one huge item Wink

I wouldn't mind getting a mixture of geocaching and letterboxing stuff since I'm interested in both. Perhaps you could include preferences in the form. What we do (geocaching/letterboxing/both) and what we would like to craft for (geocaching/letterboxing/both).

As for sized, I would think 1 medium item and a bunch of small swag. Maybe we could do something with a Signature swag item?

I don't know how is it in other countries, but in Czech republic many cachers have "CWGs"= Czech Wood Geocoins. It looks like this  and every cacher has his own design with his nickname. It's not trackable, just for trading in caches. I don't like them too much but many local cachers are totally obsessed with collecting them.
I was just wondering, is there anything similar in other countries?

I've never seen wooden ones (but then again I've only found 20-something caches) but I sometimes come across signature items. At least I think it was... Some kind of poly clay thingy in a small ziplock. It didn't look like much, but I assumed it was special to someone since they went to the trouble to put it in a baggie.

And on a semi related note: Auuuuugh! I hate evil nanos that insist on hiding from me Sad I've found one so I know I can do it, but I hate it when they're hidden in places with a gazillion hiding places.

Oh yep.. I've found only two nanos and they were evil! However I think to find them isn't the worst, it's much worse to find a space on their logbook (and to fill the logbook back!) Grin

Looking at lots of sites online, I have heard of the wooden coins but they seem to be most popular in Europe.  Here we have metal coins that people are crazy about collecting but they are usually pretty pricy and are hardly ever seen in anything.  There are websites online where you can get coins made how you want them and you can get trackable ones for even more money.  I don't have the money to pay for things to be trackable on geocaching.com, so I have things over on http://www.travelertags.com/

I haven't done much with geocaching since I don't have a gps so I've mainly done letterboxing but I know I like both, each for what they are but most people seem to be just for one or the other.

I heard of letterboxing, but I think it's mainly American thing (at least in the Czech republic are just a few letterboxes, all of them far from me), so I've never tried it.
I haven't GPS as well, so I can't hunt multi-caches and the rest goes slowly, but I think I can enjoy geocaching without GPS even more then with it. I've found cca 50 caches (not many, I know), all of them without GPS, and it's always an adventure.

I'm a novice cacher - but yes, there are many types of custom items.  Some will have custom buttons, some have fancy metal tags, some are hand made type items.

Letterboxing here in the us still isn't as popular as Geocaching.  In the smallish town I live in, there was 1 letterbox, but has disappeared, yet in the single park that it was in there are at least 40 geocaches there...

Ok, so I am thinking 4 points for your partner, either 2 mediums or 1 medium two smalls, and 3-5 small or very small crafted items for geocaching. Or if you letterbox, a hand carved (or store bought, if necessary) stamp. You will be able to say whether you geocache, letterbox or both. I am thinking about 2 weeks for signups and a month for crafting.

Let me know what you think of this and I will get started in setting it up.

Thanks!

I much prefer the craftster size guidelines to points... I tend to avoid the point ones. But don't mind me since I might not be able to join the swap anyway.

Would the swag have to be crafted or could it be store bought? 2 medium + 3-5 small would be a rather large swap. (I know, I know, that was about the swap size I suggested earlier... Um... Just thought of this?) I know in swaps like the magic yarn ball swaps the balls should contain a minimum number of small items and so-and-so many of those have to be crafted. Can't remember the exact numbers, but I do remember that it took a lot of time and effort to fill that ball with small items. Perhaps the swag could be storebought OR crafted depending on the one crafting. Especially since there will be additional crafted crafts. I have plenty of odds and ends that would make fun swag, but not as many ideas for good crafted swag that won't take ages.

I love the idea of leaving miniature socks in caches since it would be so neat and unexpected. (smaller than baby socks) It's just that one of those little suckers will take me an entire evening to knit up. I didn't check the time last craft night I tried that pattern but it must have been 2-3 hours. Possibly longer. I thought about leaving them as signature items, but I'd be bored and have hand pains before I made ten of them Cheesy
