I finished these some time ago, but completely forgot to post them here. They are Dragonets, small or young dragons. They are supposed to be 'life-size', at about 17.5" long with a 22" wingspan.

I experimented with two different types of eye, the Sapphire Dragonet has cat-type safety eyes while the Ruby Dragonet has clear glass beads. The wings are not wired, but are still fairly poseable because of the stiffness of the crochet, as are their necks and tails.

These are amazing great job. I usually like the safety eyes better but I really am drawn to the glass eyes with the reddish yarn. great job.

I like them both and I find it so hard to decide which eye type is more my taste. I always like the safety eyes best but now I'm not so sure! I'll have to play with beads some!

Yes, beads give you a lot more options as to colors and textures, and since dragons in books are often described as having quite unusual eyes I think that's an interesting way to make them. Safety eyes have the focus of the pupil which we're more used to seeing though.

So finally finished my dragon. I got the pattern last year to make one for my Hubby for Christmas and two months later I'm finished, lol. I got the movie "How to train your dragon" for him and the crocheted dragon was meant to be given at the same time...but I'm a slow worker.

Modified a bit from the pattern. I used the yarn I had on hand, so it was a bit thinner then worsted weight. I also used safety eyes because that's what I had on hand and didn't do the wing lines. I did the wing lines in one wing, they were wonky and a bit of a pain so I ripped them out and skipped them all together. I do think they would've looked better with them but I really just wanted to be done.

You do such a fabulous job with the eyes. I love how they're actually a part of the head as opposed to just stuck in.

These look awesome! I was looking for a tutorial with crocheted dragons. My niece wants me to make her one from "To train a dragon". Did you make this pattern yourself or recreated someone else's pattern? Was looking for a pattern if you could please point me in the right direction that would be wonderful! Thanks.

I'm not very confident about using wire - I worry it will end up sticking out! It took a few tries, but I worked out how to make them fairly stiff without wires. The ribs are basically tubes that are stuffed, but there's no reason why you couldn't put wire in as well.
