Thanks guys Some of them are starting to wilt a bit! I guess I should start watering them a couple times a day!
Im sure there are plants that work better than others but I just kind of used random ones I found in a store.
And if I remember correctly beth.wilson.norwood tried some with herbs as well!

Now that its hot out on a regular basis they have dried out rather quickly after watering.

That is really cool.
How often do you have to water them?  I would love to do a hanging pot or two but here in the South everything dries up so fast I'd be afraid of killing them if I don't water like 10 times a day

Well I think it would depend on your climate... They did quite well for awhile, but once it got up into a stretch of the really hot humid days, they took a pretty sharp decline. Even after just watering them the would dry rather fast. Id like to try them again but this time I think I will try something with a container of sorts so that it would hold moisture a little better. And well, theres really only one way to find out how many times you'd have to water them  If they do die, you can always try again!!

Being in the south where everything dries out real quick, I think this would work best for succulents and other plants that don't require much watering. Succulents prefer to be drenched with water that drains out quickly, and only every few weeks.

For those who are worried about these drying out in the south. When I made my string garden I lived in Central Arkansas. They did fine, I just watered them a few times a day with a hose making sure to spray the sides down with a light spray.

Holy cheese! Did you see those trees? How absolutely PERFECT would that be for some super-urban-homesteading??? I absolutely have to try this with some herbs-- then maybe some fruit-- then....the world, or at the very least, San Francisco. Buahahahaha. Yes....
