Hola Craftsters! Check out the henna I did last night. Cheesy

I'm fairly proud of this.. it's been a LONG time since I've done henna, I could see myself getting back into it.

What do you think? Thanks for looking! Smiley

Edit: Here's some more info on my henna process:

I used 2009 Jamilia henna ordered from Mehandi.com. I mixed the henna powder with lemon juice and a tiny bit of honey. After letting it rest in a covered bowl overnight, I add naiouli and cardamom essential oils (a.k.a. "terps") and let it rest another 8 hours. Terps help to improve the stain of henna.

As for the actual design process, well, there really isn't much of one! Cheesy I learned some of the basic elements of henna design here: http://www.hennapage.com/henna/what/lineart/index.html
I try to find different ways to use these elements and just sort of let the design flow.

The stain turned out lovely considering the location on my body, unfortunately I don't have a paste-off picture. Sad

Thanks for the comment! When I first got into henna a few years ago I always wanted to set up a booth at a local fair or something but I was never confident enough to actually make it happen.

OMG I was just thinking someone should make a post about Henna (inst I just did one on my arm a day ago) since its summer and that's usually when I do mine. I can't to commit to a crafty tattoo like the ones featured on the site but I can diffidently go for some Henna. Great job! Maybe I'll share the peacock design I did over the weekend sometime soon Smiley

Very pretty. Just in case you haven't considered this, there are other things you can do to improve the stain after you remove the paste

1. some people say putting a layer of vicks will help (the camphor darkens the henna)
2. the longer you stay away from water after taking off the henna will determine how long it lasts.

of course there are a lot more things, but they're all old wives tales so I don't know how much weight they actually carry.

Very very beautiful!

I love henna, though it doesn't seem to take well on my skin. I actually think it's the poor quality of the henna I bought. I should try ordering from a better site.

I did henna on my belly with both of my pregnancies, so much fun Smiley

Gorgeous!
I love thehennapage.com -- lots of good techniques, tips, and info there.
Whenever someone asks me a question regarding henna that requires a lengthy answer, I usually direct them to that site.  lol

And I might have to steal your placement idea (on your shin/calf area), 'cause I usually do a lot of henna on my hands, but I just got a job where I can't do that anymore  ;____;
