This is my entry to the Joann prom dress competition. I've spent so much time with it at this point that I think I'd like to marry it (fingers crossed that California pulls though and accepts human-inanimate object unions)!  Tongue

Thanks so much to Awesome McTastical and annaloves for helping me with the ruching/pleating!

The dress is made up of a corset top basically covered in yarn and chiffon. To make the top, I handstitched strands of yarn into this wave pattern (I don't know how I sprouted this hare-brained idea, but it became the bane of my existence for the past three months  Tongue). I then stitched a couple of trees in and added some flowers. The skirt is four layers of chiffon -- three of pink and one of purple on top.

The front.

The back. It laces up with the lacing continuing under the skirt.

I needed to make an accessory to enter the contest. This is actually a comb which I created out of fimo clay. I attached the same flowers from the top of the dress.

A detail shot of the, er, detail. Cheesy Needles to say, I'm now sporting major calluses on my fingertips from this excursion... Didja catch that pun? Hahah, it's late, I'm sorry...

And finally, the pleating/ruching/pluching? After gathering the top, I sort of slipstitched the three layers of pink chiffon into pleats, then I pleated the top layer of purple chiffon. This way the fabric stays nice and snuggly next to the bodice.

Enjoy! I know I did!  Wink

That is beautiful I just love it and it looks like it was a labor of love. I will keep my fingers crossed that the two of you will be able to wed soon in CA lol.

Wow!  This is simply gorgeous.  I am from Australia and don't know about the JoAnn's competition.  Is it something we can vote for?  Coz you totally rocked this and would get lots of votes from your fellow craftsters I am sure.  Give us a link if we can?  Awesome.
