The Kraken (picture Epic)

Okay so when I heard that there was going to be a mythical creature challenge and I knew I had to join. When I think of mythical creatures, I of course think of mermaids, dragons, and faeries, but I wanted to do something different, so I picked THE KRAKEN. (Mostly because of love octpodes) I wanted to make it as realistic as possible and I definitely wanted a treasure chest incorporated. The challenge was originally due in May so I stayed up until 1:00am finishing it so that I could upload pictures at work because my internet was down. Well when I got to work I saw that the challenge was extended so I decided to build a base and then decided that just sand would be too boring so I added the rock with a sea anemone, a clam bed, and of course a cute little starfish. I hope you enjoy, it took hours and hours of sculpting and I have NEVER sculpted this epically before. Enjoy.

Head, eyes, those cute cup like things under the eyes


Curled tentacle with some of the hundreds of suckers i made and attached


The treasure chest, I was going to smooth out the coins, but I liked the way my fingerprints left the indentation, it made it seem more real


wanted to show off the texture on the rock and the clam bed I made


The sea anemone and the starfish


for the base I rolled out polymer clay poked it a million times by hand (ouch) to simulate sand and then I brushed on oil pastels to give it depth. Everything was sculpted by hand and everything is made from polymer clay. The whole sculpture is about 1 foot by 8 inches and I am sooo proud of it.

At first I was like.. its a squid.. whats mythical about that.. then i googled kraken.. now i get it!! and i learnt something new!! awesome job done on the suckers!!!
They must have taken forever!!
