So, I was at the thrift store, wearing a Farscape shirt, and I found this craft panel for bass and trout:

Which has one each of a big trout/bass and one each of a smaller version. Of course, I had to get this, especially given my shirt (obscure Farscape reference here). But what to do with the thing? The panel suggests appliqueing a vest, or making a faux taxidermied fish. Instead, I opted for a purse.

Basic steps:
cut out the fish shapes
fuse fusible fleece to the back of the panel fabric
cut out lining (I used cotton duck for stiffness), but remove lower fins and tail
sew the fish pieces together
topstitch fins and tail
sew on side fins
sew lining around top opening
attach handle (in this case, a leather belt with the metal bits removed)
finish sewing and add snap at top closure

It isn't super huge, but it fits under my arm, and can hold a wallet, phone, and a few more things. I may or may not turn the small fish into a coin purse, because small stuffed fish projectiles are also tempting....

that is so awesome. I never would have thought of that sort of thing. I think walmart has a turkey panel still and now I'm tempted to go get it! lol
