I decided I needed something stylish to keep me organized so this is what I came up with:

I used this as a guide but didn't follow the pattern or directions (which is probably why it came out a little wonky!) :

As a newbie to sewing, I can't say I understand the term "fat quarters." Could someone pretty please explain this to me?

a fat quarter is just a cut of fabric typically used by quilters.  Many stores will carry a selection of precut fat quarters in a variety of fabrics.  I like to buy fat quarters when I'm doing small projects because I don't have to find someone to cut a small peice of fabric off the bolt for me Smiley

A fat quarter is a quarter-yard of fabric, but instead of it being 9"x44" (the usual width of quilting fabric), it's 18"x22", so imagine a yard of fabric cut in half width-wise and then again length-wise.  You would then have 4 fat quarters.  Make sense??

Oh, and BTW - I like the organizer, too!  Very pretty.  Grin

Thank you guys so much! I now understand completely. One more question, though - what would a fat quarter be in Canada? Would it be a fat quarter of a meter? By the way, the portfolio is lovely. Great fabric!
